Acer is Making a Game Console!? 0

Press Release

As some of you likely know, Acer makes laptops. Now Acer’s Senior Vice President says that they’re making a game console, that will be based on an ‘open’ philosophy.

I hate to predict failure, but this strikes me as ‘this is going to fail spectacularly’ material. Basically, it looks like they’re trying to create a PC 2.0 type monster. In other words, it could end up having the same problems as a PC: Hardware issues, hacking issues, and piracy issues.

Issues 1 and 3 make development difficult; issues 1 and 2 make playing difficult. Add to these the fact that Acer doesn’t have much experience with making software and you have a recipe for failure.  And unlike Microsoft, they don’t have money to throw away getting something wrong.

Facebook Chat 0

Looks like we are going to be getting Facebook Chat in about 2 weeks, according to CoEd Magazine. The video was posted by TechCrunch so it looks pretty reputable. Looks pretty good to me, not that i need another IM client to watch. On the note of Facebook, be sure to become a fan of Exploding Wumpus on Facebook!

The Many Instruments of Mario 0

Ben Gray did a great round up of the Mario theme played on a bunch of different instruments. My personal favorite is James Hill playing it on a Ukulele.

Internet Power! Vol. 1 0

Andy Baio has been collecting old VHS tapes related to the internet recently and he digitalized this one, which looks at the internet in 1995. Amazing how far we have come in 13 years.

Clover-Fail Sequel? 0

It looks like there is possibly a Cloverfield sequel in the woks, at least from this viral video. It may also be a movie called Quarantine, Screen Gems’ remake of [Rec] but no one knows for sure.

Sorry for all the Cloverfield related content lately, we have more stuff in the works.
