You all heard of Coheed and Cambria?
…No?
Fuck you.
This week we’re reviewing them.
Acre’s View
Second Stage Turbine Blade
Second Stage Turbine Blade has the interesting position of being Coheed and Cambria’s most underappreciated album. Fans of their later Good Apollo series generally seem to brush this album off, preferring the bigger rock anthems to their debut’s post-hardcore roots. Yet, at the same time, SSTB also contains many of Coheed’s best songs. The album’s first four tracks (not counting the intro – from Time Consumer to Delirium Trigger) form what might just be the highlight of Coheed’s entire discography. We go from Time Consumer’s brilliant guitar interplay and near-peerless chorus, to Devil in Jersey City’s raw punk intensity, to Everything Evil’s spidery guitars and epic conclusion, to Delirium Trigger’s fusion of laid-back prog and intense post-hardcore. And that’s just the album’s first half. It may require some appreciation to post-hardcore to truly appreciate SSTB, but it truly is a fantastic album, on par with (and even possibly surpassing ) Good Apollo Vol. 1 in my books.

In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
In Keeping Secrets marked Coheed’s transition from prog-tinged post-hardcore band to hardcore-tinged prog band. This is immediately apparent by way of the album’s THREE 8+ minute tracks (if you count hidden track 21:13, of course). Each of these three tracks is its own highlight of the band’s discography. The title track’s iconic guitar intro, massive choruses, and incredible “Woahaoh” finale (a theme Coheed still loves to tap into) make it one of the band’s most recognizable songs, while The Light and the Glass is without question the best ballad they’ve ever produced (take THAT, Mother Superior!), and 21:13 is among their most experimental cuts. The highlight’s don’t stop though, as we also get pop-punk bliss in A Favor House Atlantic, metal riffing from Al The Killer, and a slow-burning, guitar-crunching prog masterpiece in The Crowing. Needless to say, on IKS Coheed solidified the formula that made them so successful, and allowed for even further experimentation in their following albums.

Ok, well my social teacher is a braindead fuckwit that doesnt know how to teach so he just throws massive assignments at you. Thusly, I shall not be reviewing to the greatest of my ability, as I have been working on this assignment for over five hours and it is nearly one in the morning.
I was just gonna post something dumb here, but truth be told, I couldn’t do that to Coheed. They are fucking awesome. Alot of people don’t like them simply because of the vocals. Claudio’s vocal style is very unique, there is no doubt about that, and some people just can’t deal with that. But I really like Coheed due to their ability to mesh a variety of styles together in one song, one album, etc. All their music is refined to the point of perfection. Quite simply, I love it. I could tell you every track on every album of theirs, and recite on 80% of their songs.
In my opinion, their best album is ‘Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV Volume II: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness’ (don’t you just love prog titles?). An absolutely perfect blend of every style that you can imagine, refined to perfection, there is nothing bad you could ever speak about this album. But I’m too goddamn tired. Here’s some music.

Hey everyone, listen to Coheed. Right. Now. Like, go out. Buy an album. Any one. Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star Volume 1? Sure. Thats a good choice. Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star Volume 2? Thats a good choice as well. I’d keep going, but unless you can’t put two and two together (its four), here is my point: Coheed is amazing, and you need to listen to them. They have a style that is distinctly ‘Coheed’. The amazing thing about Coheed is that their entire discography is a story. Most bands stop after only one album. Instead Coheed’s albums reveal a large scale story written by Claudio, the bands singer and frontman.
You may have noticed that I haven’t written much. That’s because I haven’t. Said Social project still consumes a short period of my time (if someone can tell me what Nicuragua has to do with the Cold War I would be much obliged), however the more pressing issue of graduating and other things have consumed my time.

A man who rode his bicycle 180 miles to have sex with a Scranton teen he met on the Internet will serve one to four years in prison, a judge ruled Wednesday.
William Wagner, 26, 414 Battery Drive, Havre de Grace, Md., met the 15-year-old girl through the social networking Web site MySpace. In June, he biked to Scranton to meet the teen.
In February, Mr. Wagner pleaded guilty to unlawful contact with a minor.
He slept at Pine Brook baseball field, Sanderson Avenue and Green Place, while he was in Scranton. He took the teen to the baseball field and had intercourse with her there several times, police said.
After he left Scranton, the girl told her parents she had sex with Mr. Wagner, who reported it to police.
The Times-Tribune does not identify sexual assault victims.
The teen told police she considered herself to be “in a relationship” with Mr. Wagner at one time. He knew she was only 15, she told police.
“It was a peculiar set of circumstances, including that he rode his bike to meet her,” said Deputy District Attorney Michelle Olshefski. “I think the sentence is very fitting. He acknowledged that he knew her age and what he did was wrong.”
After serving his prison sentence, Mr. Wagner will have to register as a sex offender under the state’s Megan’s Law requirements for 10 years.
