Listening To: White Lies – To Lose My Life View Comments
Well to follow in the foot steps of everyone else on this blog i’ve decided to start posting about the music that i’m currently listening to. It is quite simply called, Listening To. It’s not going to be a weekly post or anything, it’s just going to happen whenever theres something new that i’m listening to that i love.
First up is “To Lose My Life” by White Lies

White Lies is an alternative rock band from Ealing in West London, England. Their debut album, To Lose My Life, was released on the 19th of January 2009. The album didn’t do great on this side of the pond but i personally find it a great listen. First off, one of my favorite songs from the album: From The Stars

This song starts nice and slow with some slow, rhythmic drums and then rapidly speeds up. When i listen to this song i can’t help but bob my head around and do a little jig. One of the best things about this song are the fantastic, interesting lyrics. I’m not exactly sure what they are talking about, even though this is my ~50th time listening to the song, but i still find it great to listen to. Throughout the song there are various beat changes and the song changes a lot between the chorus and each other part of the song.

The next song i’ve chosen is The Price Of Love. It continues with the interesting and intrecite lyrics of From The Stars, a theme that is seen throughout most of the album. The song is, of course, about the price of love. A lot of people probably won’t appreciate the fact that “So is this the price of love” consists of most of the song, but there are a lot of fantastic songs that use even fewer words throughout the entire song.
One of the flaws in this album is that a lot of the songs end up listening the same, sort of like with The Arctic Monkeys, but i love it none the less. It’s great music to just blast on your speakers when no one is around and get work done while listening to.
Overall i give this album 8/10 and i can’t wait to hear White Lie’s next album! Hopefully they tour to Canada so i can see them live, but that’s pretty doubtful. I definitely recommend that you give this album a shot!
Hope you enjoyed the first review! I’m hoping to write a review of Death Cab For Cutie’s new EP “The Open Door” as well as Metric’s “Fantasies”
