Well to follow in the foot steps of everyone else on this blog i’ve decided to start posting about the music that i’m currently listening to. It is quite simply called, Listening To. It’s not going to be a weekly post or anything, it’s just going to happen whenever theres something new that i’m listening to that i love.
First up is “To Lose My Life” by White Lies

White Lies is an alternative rock band from Ealing in West London, England. Their debut album, To Lose My Life, was released on the 19th of January 2009. The album didn’t do great on this side of the pond but i personally find it a great listen. First off, one of my favorite songs from the album: From The Stars
[audio:http://blog.explodingwumpus.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/07-from-the-stars.mp3]
This song starts nice and slow with some slow, rhythmic drums and then rapidly speeds up. When i listen to this song i can’t help but bob my head around and do a little jig. One of the best things about this song are the fantastic, interesting lyrics. I’m not exactly sure what they are talking about, even though this is my ~50th time listening to the song, but i still find it great to listen to. Throughout the song there are various beat changes and the song changes a lot between the chorus and each other part of the song.
[audio:http://blog.explodingwumpus.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/10-the-price-of-love.mp3]
The next song i’ve chosen is The Price Of Love. It continues with the interesting and intrecite lyrics of From The Stars, a theme that is seen throughout most of the album. The song is, of course, about the price of love. A lot of people probably won’t appreciate the fact that “So is this the price of love” consists of most of the song, but there are a lot of fantastic songs that use even fewer words throughout the entire song.

One of the flaws in this album is that a lot of the songs end up listening the same, sort of like with The Arctic Monkeys, but i love it none the less. It’s great music to just blast on your speakers when no one is around and get work done while listening to.

Overall i give this album 8/10 and i can’t wait to hear White Lie’s next album! Hopefully they tour to Canada so i can see them live, but that’s pretty doubtful. I definitely recommend that you give this album a shot!

Hope you enjoyed the first review! I’m hoping to write a review of Death Cab For Cutie’s new EP “The Open Door” as well as Metric’s “Fantasies”

Alright well the blog has been a little slow so ive decided to continue doing my New Music section every now and then.
So ill start this off with a new kick ass band i found today on BBC, maybe you’ve heard of them if you live in Australia but i doubt it. This steller bands name is Empire Of The Sun (not to be confused with the really old movie by Spielberg). The band it self comes off as a really weird alternative rock, mostly because every song has a bit of something else in it. Some may have a kick of electronica in it or some it is just scary weird like on of their singles Delta Bay. However this is one of my favorite songs and one of the only music videos they have. Enjoy!
Empire of the sun – Walking on a dream

Up next on the list is this totally fucking awesome band unlike any other! Little Comets, from New Castle (the one in the UK) go around filming themselves running around doing shows in University Cafeterias, Trains and Buses. The only downside is they have yet to make an official music video. I suggest listening to their music on the their Myspace page mostly because it has all their information.
Heres Comets on the bus.

Last but not least The Futureheads. Still really good rock music and not quite so indie, but they are defiantly new to me. You can check them out on Myspace or on their website.
Futureheads – Beginning of the twist

So last night i was really bored and was playing games i have already obliterated so i start another oblivion file and relapse has occurred i am addicted to it again. It should pass here cause Fable 2 is coming out on October 21. So well with no money whats so ever i might just have to start selling drugs just to be able to buy it. Which is not that bad i guess other then the fact that after it comes out my empire will fall….=( but its a small price to pay for a game that is hopefully amazing beyond all belief.

I found this pretty sweet but very unfair that people who work at movie/ game stores can own the game before it is released because the store will have it in stock and just let the workers buy it when they get it the only thing is they have to pay for it on the release date or else they could be caught for releasing a game before its out.

Just look at the screen shots here

Sweet

also you can see more at the games’ site

Have fun gaming y’all should be really sweet.

Heres some new music I’ve stumbled upon these past few weeks, the majority of it is indie rock/pop.

First off id like to start with one of my personal favorites, The Friendly Fires. Every time i listen to them they just seem to get better and better. One thing I really like about The Friendly Fires is that all their songs sound nothing like the next. The Friendly Fires first album is due to be released on September 1st 2008 so you’ll have to be patient. If you want to here more you can check them out on their Myspace page or on Last.fm.

Friendly Fires -Jump In The Pool

Secondly, Sea Wolf. You may or may not have heard of them as they are not that “new” but they are also not very popular. I must say they are starting to catch on to me one of their hit songs “Your a Wolf” is especially catchy and I cant stop listening to it. So far they have only released one album called “Leaves In The River” (I cannot find it anywhere) which you can listen to on their Myspace page or their Last.fm page.

Sea Wolf – Your A Wolf

Lastly and most definitely one of my favorite bands, so young and talented these guys are amazing. The Bombay Bicycle Club which in my opinion really grasp the emotion that music should. Its not just one of those bands that sound like all of the other ones, they truly have developed a style unlike any other. You can give them a listen on their Myspace or Last.fm page.

Bombay Bicycle Club – Early Morning

Enjoy.

There lived a certain man in Russia long ago
He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow
Most people looked at him with terror and with fear
But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear
He could preach the bible like a preacher
Full of ecstacy and fire
But he also was the kind of teacher
Women would desire

RA RA RASPUTIN
Lover of the Russian queen
There was a cat that really was gone
RA RA RASPUTIN
Russia’s greatest love machine
It was a shame how he carried on

He ruled the Russian land and never mind the czar
But the kasachok he danced really wunderbar
In all affairs of state he was the man to please
But he was real great when he had a girl to squeeze
For the queen he was no wheeler dealer
Though she’d heard the things he’d done
She believed he was a holy healer
Who would heal her son

(Spoken:)
But when his drinking and lusting and his hunger
for power became known to more and more people,
the demands to do something about this outrageous
man became louder and louder.

“This man’s just got to go!” declared his enemies
But the ladies begged “Don’t you try to do it, please”
No doubt this Rasputin had lots of hidden charms
Though he was a brute they just fell into his arms
Then one night some men of higher standing
Set a trap, they’re not to blame
“Come to visit us” they kept demanding
And he really came

RA RA RASPUTIN
Lover of the Russian queen
They put some poison into his wine
RA RA RASPUTIN
Russia’s greatest love machine
He drank it all and he said “I feel fine”

RA RA RASPUTIN
Lover of the Russian queen
They didn’t quit, they wanted his head
RA RA RASPUTIN
Russia’s greatest love machine
And so they shot him till he was dead

(Spoken:) Oh, those Russians…

Death Cab for Cutie’s new album, Narrow Stairs, was released on May 13th 2008. I’ve listened to it pretty heavily this last week and i must say, i love this album. I have liked a few of their songs before but was never really into them that much. This album completely changed that. I like pretty much every track on this album, not just one or two like it is with most albums. They sound sorta like a weird blend between the Barenaked Ladies and Radiohead on this album and it’s very enjoyable to listen to.

Im not sure many of you have heard of an “internet person” named Jon Lajoie. He showed up on the internet quite a few months ago and produces a hilarious video every two to three weeks. I personally am a huge fan and this is why I’ve decided to share some of his videos with you. Also, he’s Canadian which makes his comedy an even greater achievement.

This is his hilariously hideous new website. All the videos can be found there or on any video sharing site. Although peronally I find 90% of his work very, very funny, I believe this guy really shines when it comes to creating original songs. Some of the songs he has made are among my favourite songs to listen to in itunes; and I actually seriously treat them as real music. Now I am not going to embed all the videos he’s ever done because if you are interested you can just go to the website. What I am going to do is show you his greatest work to date, some songs so awesome you’ll want to visit the website just to get the mp3 files for your own personal listening pleasure.

This was the first song of his I listened to, and it remains one of my favourites.

The next song that took my interest was the second “everyday normal guy” It was instantly my new favourite song and I found myself humming it everywhere.

Here is where it gets absolutely fucking awesome. I LOVE this song. I cannot stop listening to it. It is the catchiest shit ever, and it has some very, very, very clever lyrics that fit the flow of the song better than something coherent might.

The three songs above are my favourites but the next three songs below are equally as grand and all deserve a listen at some point. Especially “High as Fuck”. That is a wonderfull song that I’m sure you all can relate to. OOOoooh, and “Cold Blooded Christmas” is also a genius song. Infact, “Song for Britney” is the only song that isnt perfect.

High As Fuck
Cold Blooded Christmas
Song For Britney

——————————
